LEGISLATORS URGE "DISCONNECTORS" TO OBSERVE ETHICAL STANDARDS
People who are
assigned by the Zamboanga del Sur II Electric Cooperative (ZAMSURECO II)
to cut its supply of electricity to the homes and establishments of
delinquent electric consumers are famously called ‘Disconnectors’.
Such people, according to the members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, should observe ethical standards taught to them
when they operate and do theirs tasks as ‘disconnectors’ of the services
of ZAMSURECO II.
This was one of the hottest issues that the legislators probed during
their regular session on Wednesday, January 11 at the Ipil SB Session
Hall.
It was reported that there were complains from some of the residents of
the municipality raised to the members of the SB that ‘disconnectors’
cut their lines without permission and some are even not polite to the
owner of the house because they use authoritative approach.
SB Member Kathy Torralba mentioned that ‘disconnectors’ should be told
to wear appropriate identification cards (IDs) and should show respect
and courtesy to the owners of the houses that they will disconnect from
the service of ZAMSURECO II.
“They have to show respect and courtesy because that is what they are
trained for. Showing their IDs or any identification that they are
people from ZAMSURECO II and asking permission before cutting any
services are s\examples of showing respect and courtesy”, stated
Torralba.
Lovelina Enteria, ZAMSURECO II Corporate Planning Manager, was present
during the session and responded that the said complaints are one of the
long-time problems of the electric cooperative and the latter has been
conducting series of orientations and trainings for the ‘disconnectors’
on the ethical standards on how to cut electricity services to each home
or establishment.
SB Member Jong Largo also added that the electric cooperative should
penalize disrespectful ‘disconnectors’ and the public should know that
the said people were given sanctions and punishments for their unruly
acts when cutting the lines and supply of electricity of the electric
cooperative.
“We are asking that ZAMSURECO II should implement punishments to these
people if they violate the ethical standards set for them to follow when
they do their jobs and if possible we should also know about this for us
to believe that the electric cooperative really did something to address
this long-time problem on unethical ‘disconnectors’”, Largo pointed out.
Enteria then disclosed that she will see to it that the call of the
legislators would reach the desk of the management of ZAMSURECO II and
gave an assurance that such things and issues would be considered.
