LTFRB RECORDS 80 "KOLORUM" PUVs

Public Utility Vans (PUVs) with routes from Ipil-Buug and vice-versa that are considered ‘Kolurum’ or with no complete documents already reached to eighty (80).

This was revealed by the person in-charge of the Land Transportation Franchising Board (LTFRB)-Ipil Office, Mae Grace Caceres, during an interview.

According to Caceres, the LTFRB-IX conducted an inspection activity during the last quarter of 2011 and it was found out that passenger vans without franchises already reached 80 in number.

She (Caceres) also mentioned that PUV owners and operators should prioritize the acquisition of their franchises to ensure that their vans travel without any major violations and their passengers enjoy the benefits of having insurances in case of accidents.

“We discovered that there are 80 PUVs with routes from Ipil-Buug have no franchises and it was also admitted by the PUV association’s officials here in Ipil. This should stop because they are traveling with all the risks of being fake or we call it kolorum”, stated Caceres.

However, the LTFRB also admitted that the process of securing a franchise would take time due to the limited number of open franchises for new applicants.

It was revealed that the applicants for new a franchise would have to wait more or less three (3) months before they can secure an open franchise.

As of PRESS time, the LTFRB still continue to urge owners and operators to apply for a franchise for their units to avoid penalties and risks when traveling and also to see to it that they will not belong to the ‘Kolorum’ PUVs’ list.
