SIBUGAY'S PLEBISCITE DAY TO KICK-OFF ON FEB 24

Zamboanga Sibugay is scheduled to celebrate its Plebiscite Day on February 24.

This was the message relayed by the Provincial Information Office (PIO) of the province and added that committees responsible for the preparations and finalization of events, activities and programs are already on their way to the finish line to ensure that the scheduled date will be a success.

It was also mentioned by the information office that the information spreading all over the province that this year’s celebration is moved to the month of July is eyed by the present administration.

According to the PIO-Sibugay message, this year’s activities and programs in celebrating the Plebiscite Day is only set for one (1) day instead of the traditional 1 week celebration.

The information office of the province never gave any comments on the matter as of PRESS time and said that there will be an official announcement to inform and make the public understand why such actions were taken.

Moreover, there was a report that the Provincial Governor, Rommel Jalosjos, has requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to consider transferring the celebration of the founding anniversary to July 1 considering the fact that the provincial government was formally established and has started on the said date.

Many officials also agree to the said idea and are expecting that the legislative body will take appropriate actions on the said request.

Information office head, Crismon Llanos, stated that the actions of the incumbent administration is not an act of removing the memories that the past administration had embedded in the minds of the people but to formally and technically straighten things up by following what is said and stated in the legal documents.

“Celebrating in February is not bad at all, but there should be technicalities that should be followed and I think the provincial government is just following what has been said in our legal documents”, explained Llanos.

According to the historical documents of the separation of the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the referendum for the creation of a new province was done on the 24th of February in the year 2001 while the transition period or considered as the formal start of the provincial government of as a new province was historically recorded on the month of July of the same year.

“With proper information dissemination and education, the people will slowly understand this”, added Llanos.

As of PRESS time, the said resolution to move the celebration’s schedule still remains pending on the legislative body of the province and the legislators expect to debate the issue on their upcoming sessions.
