President
Benigno Aquino III just issued Proclamation No. 234 on August 11, 2011
declaring August 30 this year as a regular holiday throughout the
country for the observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadhan.
The Proclamation also explained that Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the
Muslim World for three days after the end of the month of fasting and in
order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr
to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare
Tuesday, August 30, 2011 as a regular holiday throughout the
Philippines.
Meanwhile, August 29, a Monday, is also declared as a regular holiday in
observance of the National Heroes Day (Araw ng mga Bayani) in the
Philippines making the holidays a long one.
With this information spreading, constituents of the municipality of
Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay get excited.
Many thought of going to a vacation escapade with their friends and
loved ones in beaches and other places conducive for relaxing and
spending time for peaceful thinking.
Jean, a 1st year Business Administration student of one of the local
schools in Ipil, said that she will go home and spend more time with her
relatives and high school friends over the said long weekend because it
does not happen all the time.
“I will go home and spend the long weekend with my family, relatives and
friends because this is not going to happen many times this year so I
have to make sure I’ve spent the holidays in the middle of the semester
wisely”, said Jean.
Also Arvin, a 2nd year Nursing student, stressed that his long weekend
will be spent for studying in advance the future topics of his subjects
and making projects to beat the deadline of his instructors.
“Making myself busy with my projects, term papers and studying in
advance would be my best way of spending the long weekend. I mean, I
have to utilize this opportunity to make sure that I will avoid cramming
in beating the deadlines and preparing for exams at the end of the
semester”, explained Arvin.
However, some people still considered the long weekend this month as
part of their everyday routines like the tricycle drivers. Tatay Romeo,
who is a tricycle driver for almost 5 years, said that even if it’s a
holiday he still has to roam the streets of Ipil and search for possible
passengers to earn money for his family.
“Life is not easy for us drivers so even if it’s a holiday or long
weekend as what many people call it, I still do my usual routine and
continue life as if nothing is new”, expressed Tatay Romeo.
As of PRESS time, many people are still excited on the long weekend
ahead and are already thinking of the best plan to spend their time in
the so called Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday holiday experience.
