The developing town of Siay which is strategically stretched along the majestic Sibugay River of the Province of Zamboanga Sibugay was born on December 28, 1956 by virtue of Executive Order No. 223 issued by the late President Ramon Magsaysay.

Siay is mainly agricultural due to its proximity to Sibugay River. This opened vast opportunities for its people to engage in other fishing-related activities like bangus fry collection, prawns fry collection, seaweeds drying, and gathering of various seashells.

Paje (an alternative specie of tiger prawn), crabs, and bangus (milkfish), along with assorted dried marine products like danggit, osohos, and squid, among others, are sold in the markets of Zamboanga City & in cities and provinces nationwide.

Its calamansi production is gaining fame nationwide through the bottled calamansi which is also sold in markets nationwide.

When you visit the town of Siay, you will go home filled with the taste and aroma of its luscious and delightful smorgasbord of agricultural and marine-based table treats prepared by the hospitable people of Siay, leaving you wanting for more… and then more when you experience the festive celebrations of the Paje and Bangus Festivals that the people look forward to every year.

We are celebrating the Araw Ng Siay every every 17th day of December of each year. Participating agencies enjoyed their allotted night affairs from December 10-17. However, the celebration of the Araw Ng Siay for 2014 probably will no longer be the 17th day of December. It was tentatively planned to be moved at December 28 of each year, the date when Siay was created into a Municipality. Executive Order No. 223 was signed into law dated December 28, 1956 by H.E. Ramon Magsaysay, officially creating Siay into a Municipality from the Municipalities of Kabasalan and Malangas. Our Incumbent Mayor, the Honorable Julius T. Acosta, is more inclined to celebrate the 58th Araw Ng Siay for 2014 on the date where EO 223 was actually signed. The People of Siay has been successful in all past December 17th Araw Celebrations, however success is much expected in the future December 28th Araw Celebration, being the date Siay was "Born".
